Red 2020 Jeep Wrangler | 495 CJDR in Lowell, MAThe adventurous Jeep Wrangler is joining the hybrid ranks for 2020! While still a Wrangler at heart, the new vehicle offers a number of intriguing details. Quieter than a standard Wrangler, the hybrid gives you the chance to enjoy off-road activities, such as birding, without interrupting Mother Nature’s work.

Engine

While it is not yet confirmed, the new Wrangler engine is likely a 3.6-liter, V-6 turbo diesel engine. The second option is a turbocharged 2.0-liter eTorque option. Both offer start-stop technology, meaning that when drivers place their foot on the brake pedal at a red light, the engine shuts off. This saves gas and electricity in the hybrid model. Once you take your foot off the brake, the engine quickly turns on again, so you can keep up with the flow of traffic.

The plug-in option will offer an EV-only driving mode for use under certain driving conditions. When in EV-only mode the vehicle relies on a 16-kilowatt hour high voltage battery. When plugged in at home, the battery takes 14 hours to charge fully. If you need a quick charge, a 240-volt, 30-amp power circuit gets the job done in two hours.

Transmissions

Pairing the engine with a six-speed manual transmission keeps the ride smooth and responsive no matter what the road, traffic, or weather conditions. If you choose the four-cylinder engine block, the transmission is an eight-speed automatic system.

Hybrid System

One of the most critical components of the hybrid system is the eFlite component. It has a transaxle with a planetary gear set, and a one-way clutch included. The eFlite works in the transmission. Wrangler owners do not have to worry about the hybrid system running into issues when they go on an off-road adventure – the plug-in system will ford up to 30 inches of water just like a non-hybrid version of the Wrangler.

Source of Power

Wrangler owners enjoy adventures that often take them far off the grid. If you’re planning one of these trips, the Wrangler hybrid serves two purposes for you. The plug-in model gets you to your destination, no matter where you are headed! Once you arrive, the second purpose kicks in – it can serve as a power source for you to use during your adventure. Since the engine can charge from the traditional engine, adventure seekers can use the hybrid components as a power source.

Imagine camping and being able to charge your electronics without fear of killing your battery. It can also serve as an emergency backup if something happens while on the road. The power takeoff system is located in the cabin of the vehicle so you can get out of the weather and call for help. Use the extra energy to alert rescuers to your location.
