Ram 3500 truck | 495 CJDR in Lowell, MAIf you’re shopping for your next truck, you may be wondering what the differences between Ram’s offerings are. The Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 pickups are all reliable and well-equipped, but which one is best for what you’re looking for?

Here’s a quick guide to what you can expect from each model:

The One Thing You Should Know

By far, the biggest difference between these three truck options is their capabilities, especially when it comes to towing. The light-duty 1500 can handle less than the beefy heavy-duty 3500.

The Ram lineup gives you the option to choose the perfect level of power for your work and play styles. Aside from their power levels, the differences between these three trucks are minimal, save a few features here and there.

Towing and Payload

Let’s take a look at what each model is capable of.

The 2019 Ram 1500, when properly equipped, can tow up to 12,750 pounds. It can also handle a 2,300-pound payload in the bed.

The 2019 Ram 2500 can tow up to 19,780 pounds and has a payload rating of 4,050 pounds.

The 2019 Ram 3500 is the most powerful option. It can handle up to 35,100 pounds in towing and a 7,680-pound payload.

Engine Options

The 2019 Ram 1500 has three engine configurations to choose from. The entry-level engine is the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 that uses eTorque to get up to 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. The second engine option it the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine, which packs 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. You can get that HEMI with eTorque system, which produces the same power levels, but raises the towing capacity to the best-in-class 12,750 pounds.

The 2019 Ram 2500 has two engine options: a 6.4-liter HEMI V-8 that produces 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque, or a 6.7-liter Cummins turbocharged diesel engine that packs 370 horsepower and 850 pound-feet of torque.

For the 2019 Ram 3500, you’ll have the option between the 2500’s two engines for the same power levels, but you can upgrade the diesel engine to a high-output version that raises its levels to 400 horsepower and 1,000 pound-feet of torque.

What They Share

Aside from these big differences in power, the Ram trucks share quite a bit with each other! They are all well-equipped to give you the best driving experience available.

Each model has the option between various trim levels that let you choose what features you want to see on your truck. You’ll find more leather and real wood in the Ram’s interior than its top competitors. The available center console is so big, you can stash laptops in it, and driver-assist technologies change the way you navigate through the city. In short, Ram’s pickups are equipped to let you relax and connect while your truck works for you.
