You might think that spring cleaning is just for your house, but that isn’t the case anymore. Giving your car a good thorough cleaning and shining up those wheels is a fairly easy task. Make sure you set aside a few minutes to spruce up the outside of your car too. Not sure how to get started? Here are five ways to spring clean your tires.
-
Get Ready to Scrub
The first thing you should do during your spring cleaning for your tires is simple — clean them. One of the best ways to get ready to do this is to grab a washing mitt or soft washcloth. These are safe for almost every type of wheel finish and works great on tires as well – there’s no need to buy expensive cleaning brushes. You’ll also need to get a bucket of good old soap and water for easier jobs. For wheels with more build-up, you might need to grab a wheel cleaner that is pH neutral. Don’t forget to grab a towel to dry those tires!
-
Now, Scrub Away
After you have gathered your necessities, it’s time to get to work. First, you can mix your soap and water mixture along with your washcloth and get what you can off the wheels. Rinse and check to make sure they are clean before drying. If that isn’t quite enough then use your special wheel cleaner to get off the real grime. You can then rinse and towel dry for a perfect finish.
-
Polish Those Tires
Using a polish will help to increase the gloss of both your wheels and tires. You should wait until your wheels are fully dry and cool to the touch before this step. If possible you should also try to be out of the path of direct sunlight. Apply the polish as the directions state and you’ll have shiny wheels in no time!
-
Condition Your Tires
A good additional step for your tires is to condition them. Conditioning helps to prevent cracks in the rubber caused by aging and weather. Doing this after you wash your tires will help your tires last longer and keep their black color. Simply apply the tire condition with an applicator pad and spread evenly in a circular pattern.

How to Clean Brake Dust
You might notice that you have some built-up brake dust on your wheels. There are a few things you can do to remove brake dust. You might need to get out a pressure washer for this one. Sometimes, just using the heavy sprayer and water is enough to remove the dust. If not then you can get a clay bar while the wheel is still wet in order to get off the heavier dust. To help this cleaning last longer, apply a wheel wax to the surface.
For your spring tire cleaning make sure to follow these tips for the best experience. You’ll have the best-looking wheels and tires on the road without spending a ton of time doing it!
