Cup of coffee | 495 CJDR in Lowell, MABillions of people drink coffee all over the world. It should be easy to get a good cup of freshly brewed deliciousness. If you’re a coffee-lover, then you know what it’s like to take that first sip – and taste bitter disappointment. But don’t fret! Here are three delicious places to meet a friend for great coffee in Lowell, Massachusetts.

Brew’d Awakening Coffeehaus

Located in the heart of Lowell’s downtown district at 61 Market Street, Brew’d Awakening is more than just a name. It is a cultural phenomenon paired with a physical awakening brought about through great coffee.

At Brew’d Awakening they use only Fair Trade coffee beans, acquired through cooperatives that cut out the importers/exporters, thereby allowing the small farmers that join these cooperatives to keep the profits local. A portion of this local money is used for infrastructure, schools, and other social programs to improve lives in areas that otherwise would be forgotten.

They only use Equal Exchange beans and roast them in house. They currently offer three roasts: a medium roast Nicaraguan dubbed The Poet, an Ethiopian French roast called The Painter, and a Costa Rican cold brew they named The Photographer. Brew’d Awakening branded these roasts The Art of Coffee, after the local culture and arts scene.

Brew’d Awakening is more than just coffee. They offer a surprisingly complex menu for breakfast and lunch that will please any appetite. Free Wi-Fi, live music, art shows, and more will draw you in, let you relax, and help you enjoy your visit.

Galleria Cafe

If you want great coffee, the Galleria Cafe is the place to go. This Venezuelan cafe, located across from City Hall is famous for authentic Venezuelan cuisine and drinks.

In addition to coffee, cappuccino, and espresso, they have traditional Venezuelan offerings such as Chicha, Papelon, Maltas, and Colitas. Try a fresh juice or smoothie made from guanabana, papaya, passion fruit, mango and more.

If it’s food you’re after, their menu is authentic Venezuelan cuisine. With a dozen Arepas on the menu, there is a fresh, handmade cornmeal patty with a filling for everyone. Taquenos, Tajadas, Pabellon, and Cachapas are also made fresh to order with classic Venezuelan flavor and spice.

The Galleria Cafe also supports local artists, allowing them space to show their creations. Come sip a coffee and see what amazing works are on display. Enjoy the art, sway and sing to the live musical entertainment, and enjoy the company of friends, food, and great coffee!
