  1. The Connecticut River Blueway

Drive through three New England states in a single week and explore the Connecticut River Valley on this fantastic scenic route. Begin in Boston and ride through to Hanover, New Hampshire to see the Hood Museum of Art, hike The Appalachian Trail, and canoe the river at the Ledyard Club. From there take a turn towards Northampton and Amherst, Massachusetts, where you’ll find Smith College’s botanical gardens and museum of art.

Continue to Essex and Old Lyme, Connecticut, to take the Essex Steam Train and Riverboat tour, ending at the Florence and Griswold Museum and the home of American Impressionism. Beginning at the Atlantic coast in Maine, this scenic drive takes you on a tour through the state and on through New Hampshire to view some of the most beautiful mountain scenery that New England has to offer. Start at Portland, Maine, for magnificent island and ocean views, then cut through Sabbathday Lake to see the last remaining Shaker village in the USA. From there, wander through the gardens of South Paris all the way to Paris Hill, where the White Mountains come into view.

Head towards them into New Hampshire to view the tallest peak in the northeast: Mount Washington. Climb 3000 feet from there along The National Scenic Byway until you reach Franconia Notch and Bretton Woods. There you can view what was the old man of the mountain and relax at the Omni Mount Washington Resort. End your journey at Hanover, New Hampshire, where you’ll explore the incredible Upper Valley Zone, home of the historic Dartmouth College.

  1. The Coastal Rhode Island Route

Enjoy the beauty of the smallest US state along a 61-mile drive along Route 1A down Block Island Sound. Head westerly and view the Victorian seaside town of Watch Hill. Ride America’s oldest carousel and see beautiful wildlife refuges before heading on to Narraganset Bay. There you’ll head through old plantation country until you reach Newport. Finally, take the 10-mile ocean drive through some of the most scenic landscapes in Rhode Island and into three beautiful parks before ending your trip at the Newport Harbor area, where you’ll find many shops, restaurants, and places to relax.
