Through either a guided tour or a self-guided tour, visitors can view historical works of art or modern art from local artists in the area. The Whistler House Museum of Art offers a summertime youth art program for kids as well as art classes for adults.

  1. Lowell-Dracut-Tyngsboro State Forest

Encounter the beauty of nature in Lowell by taking the family for a hike in the Lowell-Dracut-Tyngsboro State Forest. This forest stretches across three towns and has more than 1,000 acres of land area. There are multiple trails within the forest that allow visitors to hike, bike, ski, ride horses, ride snowmobiles, or go fishing. Hours for the forest are from sunrise to sunset. As a safety precaution, they do ask that visitors wear bright colors during hunting seasons. The family dog is allowed to join the fun, as long as the dog is on a leash.

  1. UMass Lowell Kayak Center

At the UMass Lowell Kayak Center, you can rent kayaks, canoes, or stand-up paddleboards for your next aquatic adventure. You can sign up for kayak instructional programs, tours, and other events at the Kayak Center. The UMass Lowell Kayak Center is open from June to September and offers a unique experience for all age groups. At the Kayak Center, safety is the top priority, and as such pets are not allowed. Kids as young as 8 may paddle their own boat if they choose to but must be under the direct supervision of an adult on the water with them at all times.
