Pint of Guinness | 495 Chrysler Jeep Dodge RamLowell, Massachusetts, might not be the biggest city in Massachusetts, but it’s up there and it sits on the heavily populated Merrimack River. Thanks to that, Lowell has an active nightlife, and there are plenty of places to go if you want to spend your evening with friends and a few good drinks. Try visiting one of the places on this list the next time you’re in the area, or you want to escape from the press of people down in Boston.

  1. Moonstones

Moonstones on Chelmsford Street is a fine-dining restaurant, a seafood grill, and a bar all in one. They offer raw seafood options including both sushi and oysters, they offer small plates with unique chef creations, and they also have the Moonbar where you can order a burger with fries or a whole plate of wings. Their happy hour lasts from 3 to 6 p.m. every weekday and includes both alcohol discounts and food plates. They even have a list of mocktails you can order if you want to enjoy the atmosphere without any alcohol.

  1. Cobblestones

Cobblestones is another restaurant and bar that’s owned by the same company as Moonstones, but Cobblestones sits in an old building in downtown Lowell on Dutton Street. Cobblestones has a special late-night menu they only offer on Friday from 9:30 p.m. to kitchen close, and it offers a new take on classic pub foods. They also have a long list of craft beers, a rotating list of wines, and a seasonal list of cocktails. These cocktails include a maple bourbon made with local maple syrup and the blueberry lemon drop made with Stoli vodka.

  1. The Old Court

The Old Court is an Irish pub that sits at the corner of Middle and Central Street. It has a traditional pub atmosphere and decoration, and the menu offers some interesting twists on the old standbys like sweet-potato fries, potato cakes with horseradish, and the popular rebel burger made with corned beef and Vermont cheddar. The Old Court also has a function room upstairs you can book for events or concerts. The pub is one of the best places in the city to get a big mug of Guinness.

  1. The Keep

Down along Gorham Street you’ll find the Keep, a restaurant and pub with a big emphasis on the drinks. The owners search near and far for craft beers and hard liquors with unique flavors you can combine in one of their unique or classic cocktails. Their food menu is shorter than their beer and spirits list, but they offer great quality with every option and source their meat from local suppliers.

If you want to enjoy a night out, Lowell has plenty of options to choose from. Between the pubs and bars downtown, and the fine restaurants closer to the edges of town, you can find just the sort of atmosphere you’re looking for when you want to enjoy a night out by yourself, with friends, or when you want to meet new people.
