What is the Kancamangus Highway?
The Kancamangus Highway in New Hampshire is famous to locals and tourists alike. Stretching nearly 35 miles, the Kancamangus Highway, often referred to as "the Kanc", winds along the Pemigewasset River and through the foothills of the White Mountains on Route 112. Getting to the Kanc from Boston is essentially a straight shot up 93 North off Exit 32 in Lincoln. At the other end of the Kanc, you'll end up in Conway. Taking a left will take you into scenic North Conway, where you can visit small shops, cafes, and restaurants and enjoy breathtaking views of the gorgeous landscape. You can even stop to take a ride on the Conway Scenic Railway. Along the route, you can enjoy hiking trails, six campgrounds maintained by the White Mountains National Forest Reserve, and other outdoor activities.
Old King's Highway - Cape Cod
Route 6A, also known as Old King's Highway, is located here in Massachusetts, taking visitors of Cape Cod from Sandwich to Provincetown. This historic route takes you by salt marshes, cranberry bogs, and historic homes in some of America's oldest villages. In 2021, Old King's Highway earned National Scenic Byway Status. Along the route, you can stop for a lobster roll lunch at Kate's Seafood in Brewster or Arnold's Lobster & Clam Bar in Eastham. If you're looking for a place to rest your head, the historic Sesuit Harbor House is a quintessential Massachusetts bed and breakfast, built in 1735. The route is also home to hundreds of historic buildings and sites, including the houses of sea captains, Pilgrim and other churches, along with a wide range of other historic sites.
