Jeep 4xe PHEV System
Power is provided to the Grand Cherokee 4xe and Wrangler 4xe by a combination of gas and electric power in the form of a two-liter turbocharged engine, a pair of electric motors, and a rechargeable battery pack. This setup gives both the Grand Cherokee and Wrangler an impressive 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. The Grand Cherokee 4xe achieves 49 MPGe, 470 miles of total driving range, and a 25-mile all-electric driving range. Meanwhile, the Wrangler 4xe gets 49 MPGe, 370 miles of total driving range, and 21 miles of all-electric driving. Since 4xe stands for 'four-by-electric,' it's safe to assume that all 4xe models come standard with 4x4, which is true. The Wrangler 4xe comes standard with Selec-Trac, which is a full-time automatic 4x4 system that continuously reads road conditions and reacts by adjusting the torque distribution. Meanwhile, Quadra-Trac I is the standard 4x4 system for the Grand Cherokee 4xe, splitting torque by 52% to the rear axle and 48% to the front axle, providing superb four-wheel drive control at all times.
Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk 4xe
While the Grand Cherokee 4xe offers impressive all-terrain capabilities on its own, the Trailhawk trim takes it to another level with exclusive equipment and features. The 4x4 system is upgraded to Quadra-Trac II, which uses a two-speed transfer case. When in 4-Low mode, the transfer case provides greater torque to the wheels at low speeds, which is essential for control and steady momentum while off-roading. Also exclusive to the Trailhawk trim is an electronic disconnecting front sway bar. By disconnecting the sway bar, the front wheels are allowed to drop and compress further, making it easier to pass over large trail obstacles. Also aiding in the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk 4xe's ability to pass over obstacles is the Quadra-Lift air suspension system. Quadra-Lift provides 11.3 inches of ground clearance at its highest setting. Other standard features for the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk 4xe include an integrated front-facing off-road camera, high-strength steel skid plates, an anti-glare hood decal, Electric Blue tow hooks, all-terrain tires, and more.
Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe
For 20 years now, the Rubicon has been the Wrangler trim level with the most off-roading abilities. Like the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk, the Wrangler Rubicon upgrades the 4x4 system to one better suited for off-roading. The Wrangler Rubicon 4xe employs Rock-Trac 4x4. When in 4-Low mode, the Rock-Trac transfer case provides a gear ratio of 4:1, meaning for each rotation of the transfer case output shaft, the transmission output shaft rotates four times. The result of this is impressive torque at very low speeds, making it best suited for crawling up steep, jagged terrain. In addition to an electronically disconnecting front sway bar, the Rubicon also uses off-roading shock absorbers built by FOX for excellent wheel articulation and up to 10.8 inches of ground clearance. Providing phenomenal traction for the Wrangler Rubicon 4xe are aggressive 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac all-terrain tires. Additionally, to maximize traction, the Rubicon comes with locking front and rear differentials, allowing the driver to make all four wheels rotate at the same speed with the push of a button. The Rubicon 4xe also comes with the same off-roading features as the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk listed above.
