Engine and Drivetrain Options for the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee
The Jeep Grand Cherokee returns for the 2023 model year with three engine options and three legendary 4x4 systems. Standard equipment for the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee is a 3.6-liter V6 engine paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission powering the rear wheels, however, 4x4 is the most commonly found drivetrain here in Massachusetts, as it is better suited for our unpredictable weather and road conditions. This setup gives the Grand Cherokee 293 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Meanwhile, the 5.7L HEMI V8 is optional to supply drivers with 357 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. Lastly, the Grand Cherokee Limited, Overland, Trailhawk, Summit, and Summit Reserve trims are eligible for the 4xe PHEV system, which mates a turbocharged two-liter engine with two electric motors and a 400-volt rechargeable battery pack, providing increased fuel efficiency alongside 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. Quadra-Trac I is the standard drivetrain for 4x4 Grand Cherokees. However, Quadra-Trac II is available for all trim levels, providing optimal traction with a two-speed transfer case. Lastly, Quadra-Drive II offers a two-speed transfer case and an electronic limited-slip rear differential.
